TDAE provides help towards excess travel and accommodation costs incurred while attending a placement as part of your course.
If your travel costs meet the TDAE eligibility criteria, you can claim TDAE for a ‘Simulated’ practice placement.
Before you can claim TDAE, you must have had your Training Grant application approved.
If you’re studying on a Healthcare Science or Pharmacy course and are only eligible to claim the TDAE element of NHS Learning Support Fund (LSF), you must have had your Eligibility Application approved before you can make a claim for reimbursement.
Apply for TDAE
Apply for a new TDAE claim from your NHS LSF account by:
- Selecting your current 'Academic Year'.
- Selecting the TDAE tab.
- Selecting Make a Claim.
Once submitted, your university will check your claim is accurate and in accordance with the rules before authorising it.
If they need to make any changes to the amounts claimed, they'll return the claim to you on your NHS LSF account.
Once approved by your university, they must submit your claim to us for payment.
All claims must be received no later than 6 months after the last date of your placement.
A guide to completing your TDAE claim is available on our website.
TDAE claims in more than one academic year
If your placement runs into a new academic year, you must split your TDAE claim over the 2 academic years.
September cohort students can apply for TDAE up to and including 31 August in one academic year. Any period of TDAE claim after that date must be submitted in the next academic year.
Training Grant applications must be approved in the new academic year before the TDAE application becomes available in your NHS LSF account.
Final year students may need a request for additional funding if their placement continues past their usual final date of study.
Mistake made on TDAE claim
If you’ve made a mistake on your TDAE claim and do not want to continue with it or are not able to change it, you can either:
- delete - this deletes your claim completely before submitting it to your university
- cancel - this cancels your claim after it's been submitted to your university
If you still want to continue with the claim, you must start again.
If you’ve submitted a claim to your university and want to amend or cancel it, ask them to send it back to you through their university portal.
